플라이 투 더 스카이 하면 떠오르는 그림과 가장 먼 곡입니다. 애절한 발라드와 정갈한 화음으로 기억되는 듀오가 여기서는 처음부터 끝까지 영어로, 그것도 거친 말을 섞어 가며 상대를 몰아붙입니다. 도입부의 읊조림부터 이 노래는 어떤 사람에게 보내는 것이고 누구를 말하는지 너도 잘 알 거라며 대놓고 못을 박고 시작합니다.
제목 뒤에 붙은 스튜디오 버전이라는 말에는 사연이 있습니다. 이 곡이 처음 실린 자리가 2004년 4월 23일에 나온 첫 라이브 음반 「The 1st Live Concert Unforgettable」이기 때문입니다. 공연 실황을 그대로 옮긴 음반이었지만 그 사이에 스튜디오에서 새로 녹음한 노래를 끼워 넣었고 그중 하나가 이 곡이었습니다. 실황이 아니라는 뜻으로 붙은 꼬리표가 그대로 곡 이름이 된 셈입니다. 이듬해 나온 베스트 음반에도 다시 실렸습니다.
1999년 11월에 데뷔한 이 팀은 미국 뉴저지에서 자란 브라이언과 서울에서 나고 자란 환희로 이뤄져 있습니다. 영어가 몸에 붙은 멤버가 있다는 조건이 이런 곡을 가능하게 했습니다. 리듬을 타며 말을 쏟아내는 도입부와 뒤로 갈수록 사나워지는 애드리브는 당시 국내 발라드 문법 안에서는 좀처럼 나오기 어려운 질감이었습니다.
내용은 이별 통보입니다. 마주칠 때마다 똑같은 일이 반복되고 늘 자기 탓으로 몰린다는 화자가 혼자가 낫겠다고 결론을 내립니다. 어젯밤 다른 남자와 함께 있는 것을 봤다는 말, 네가 그 사람인 줄 알았지만 아니었다는 말이 이어지고, 후렴은 「Girl for you I don't care no more」라는 한 문장으로 계속 되돌아옵니다. 정규 활동곡이 아니라 라이브 음반에 얹은 보너스였는데도 듀오의 다른 얼굴을 보여 주는 곡으로 오래 회자됐습니다.
