곡 소개
실사영화 '진격의 거인 ATTACK ON TITAN'(2015) 1부의 주제가. 거대한 적과 무너진 세계를 배경으로 한 작품에 맞춰, 세카이노오와리가 전곡을 영어로 부른 곡입니다. 평소 일본어 가사로 활동하던 밴드가 작품을 위해 영어 가사라는 새 시도를 택했고, 고릴라즈를 다룬 프로듀서 댄 디 오토메이터가 공동 작업에 참여했습니다.
제목 그대로 화자는 영웅이 아니라 '안티 히어로'를 자처합니다. 첫 줄부터 '세상의 옳음(right) 따위 알 바 아니다 / 나라가 만든 규칙과 법도 내 앞에선 다 쓰레기'라며 통념을 걷어차고, 그 이유로 '지켜야 할 사람들이 있으니 / 내 앞을 가로막으면 죽는다'를 댑니다. 정의로움(righteousness)을 오히려 증오하는 화자에게 중요한 건 옳음의 인정이 아니라 누군가를 풀어주는(set you free) 일입니다.
후렴은 그 역설을 한 줄로 압축합니다 — 'I'm gonna be the anti-hero / Feared and hated by everybody / So I can save you when the time comes'. 모두에게 미움받고 두려움의 대상이 되더라도, 그래야 정작 필요한 순간 너를 구할 수 있다는 것. 사랑받기를 포기하는 대가로 지키는 자리를 택한 인물의 노래입니다.
