2절은 그 침묵의 정체를 구체적으로 지목합니다. 「Written in stone, every rule, every word」라며 규칙과 말이 돌에 새겨진 채 수백 년간 굽히지 않았다고 하고, 「Stay in your place, better seen and not heard」라는 오래된 요구를 그대로 인용합니다. 제자리에 있고 보이기만 하되 들리지는 말라는 문장입니다. 그리고 이제 그 이야기는 끝났다고 잘라 말합니다.
브릿지에서 이미지가 한 번 더 도약합니다. 새장에 가두려 해도 얌전히 누워 죽지는 않겠다고 한 뒤, 부러진 날개를 그대로 들고 하늘을 가로지르며 타오르는 모습을 보라고 합니다. 부러진 날개와 비상이 한 문장 안에 붙어 있어서, 이 곡이 말하는 강함이 상처 없는 상태가 아니라 상처를 안은 채 나아가는 쪽임이 분명해집니다. 그래서 후렴의 「I won't go speechless」도 승리 선언이 아니라 버티겠다는 약속으로 들립니다.
이 곡은 2019년 실사 영화 『알라딘』을 위해 새로 쓰인 노래입니다. 1992년 애니메이션판에는 없던 곡으로, 자스민에게 단독 넘버를 주기 위해 만들어졌습니다. 작곡은 앨런 멘켄이, 노랫말은 벤지 파섹과 저스틴 폴이 맡았습니다. 총괄 프로듀서 마크 플랫은 자신이 믿는 것을 위해 일어서기로 결심하는 자스민의 결정적인 노래라고 설명했고, 멘켄은 아주 사적인 솔로 피아노로 시작해 관현악으로 부풀었다가 다시 그 피아노와 목소리로 되돌아오는 아치형 곡이라고 밝혔습니다. 사운드트랙에는 극중 흐름을 따라 파트 1과 파트 2로 나뉘어 실렸고, 풀 버전이 따로 수록됐습니다.
부른 사람은 자스민을 연기한 나오미 스콧입니다. 1993년생 영국 배우 겸 가수로 어머니는 우간다에서 이주한 인도 구자라트계이며, 교회에서 노래를 시작해 EP 《Invisible Division》과 《Promises》를 냈습니다. 2017년 『파워레인저스』와 2019년 『미녀 삼총사』에도 출연했습니다. 연기와 노래를 함께 해 온 이력은 후렴이 몇 번씩 밀어붙이며 문장이 부서질 듯 이어지는 대목에서 특히 드러납니다.
