곡 소개

장례식장이라도 온 듯 잔뜩 굳어 있는 상대에게, 화자는 왜 그렇게 발이 얼어 있느냐고 장난스럽게 채근합니다. 이제 막 시작인데 조심조심 발끝만 세우지 말고 함께 위험하게 살아 보자고 부추기는 노래입니다.

곡 내내 케이크와 디저트의 심상이 쏟아집니다. 레드벨벳, 바닐라, 초콜릿, 펀페티까지 — 달콤한 것들을 나열하며 '바닷가에서 케이크를 먹는' 상상을 반복하죠. 겉으로는 디저트 타령이지만 실은 노골적인 욕망을 에두른 표현으로, 망설이는 연인을 향한 유쾌하고 능청스러운 유혹으로 채워집니다.

사실 이 엉뚱한 제목은 함께 작업하던 스웨덴 프로듀서들이 '해변에서의 정사'라는 표현을 자꾸 '바닷가의 케이크'로 잘못 말한 데서 나왔습니다. 조 조너스가 그 착각을 재료 삼아 저스틴 트랜터 등과 십 분 만에 완성했다는 곡이, 뜻밖의 후렴구 하나로 살아났습니다.

조나스 브라더스의 조 조너스가 이끄는 밴드 DNCE는 2015년 데뷔 EP 'Swaay'의 리드 싱글로 이 곡을 발표했습니다. 통통 튀는 펑크 리듬을 앞세워 빌보드 핫 100 9위에 오르고 미국에서 5배 플래티넘을 기록하며, 밴드를 단숨에 각인시킨 대표곡이 되었습니다.
